Mobility is a major challenge for our current society in general and in Wallonia and Brussels in particular. In order to improve mobility in Wallonia, SAM-Drive has been developing for several years an on-demand transport service approved by the Walloon Region which complements the public transport offer and meets a number of specific mobility needs, particularly for teenagers. , schoolchildren, athletes, the elderly, isolated people, etc.
The project SAMOBI (2016-2018) has made it possible to develop and set up a computerized management of SAM-Drive’s current processes by supporting them efficiently thanks to the optimization software OscaR actively developed at CETIC.
SAM-Drive’s ambition is now to grow its vehicle fleet by extending its geographical coverage from Walloon Brabant to an increasingly wider part of Wallonia and Belgium. This requires a major change in the organization of the SAM-Drive IT platform, particularly in terms of dispatching and orchestration mechanisms. In addition, a better responsiveness of the platform will also increase the filling rate of vehicles and improve the predictability of schedules.
For SAM-Drive, the project will lead to a major evolution of its IT platform offering the following features and capabilities:
- Optimal management of new types of flexible requests,
- Instantiation of the dispatching service on multiple zones,
- Coordination of services between zones and global dashboard,
- Knowledge base of travel time and field-powered intervention and a new travel time calculation service,
- Reliability and ability to scale.
At the CETIC level, the R&D work will lead to the definition of a SaaS-deployable optimization platform, grouping a set of configurable and on-demand services to manage vehicle routing issues with efficient estimation. precise and cost-effective travel times. This model frees the customer from the constraint of setting up and maintaining a dedicated infrastructure requiring significant data calculation / storage resources. This service will be based on the CETIC OscaR.CBLS library, which will undergo significant changes both in the constraints used and in the search procedure and its business interface.
The project will carry the following added values:
- Enrichment of OscaR.CBLS, the library developed at CETIC and made available in Open-Source mode
- Implementation of a solution available in SaaS mode, freeing the customer from the constraint of setting up and maintaining a dedicated infrastructure. This platform will bring value not only to SAM-Drive but also to other actors dealing with similar issues (transport of parcels, materials, technical interventions, nurses’ tours, etc.)
- Growth capacity of SAM-Drive via the integration of new functional requirements (support of flexible scenarios, multi-site management, ...) and non-functional (scalability, responsiveness, reliability, availability, accuracy)
