The success of the Internet, its technical evolutions and its ubiquity, have made possible the emergence of a new “Service Oriented” computing approach that is now promoted by the largest industrial companies of the sector by the mean of technological platforms like NESSI.
In this new approach, the way data and knowledge are managed, stored and given access to is more than ever critical. Applications follow the same evolution as data with service oriented interface and architecture which make them accessible through the Internet (Web Services principles). This standard and remotely accessible interface offers to work with the same application locally, remotely or in a distributed way.
Remote access to a database in order to book a fly, publish on the Web a product or service index and provide an efficient and appealing access to it, use an on-line remote secure storage service or run huge computation on a grid system are examples of applications that can benefit widely from this knowledge and these technologies.
The objective of the ’Web Mining and Grid Applications’ team is to allow any company to benefit from this “Service Oriented” approach by accompanying it in the choices and set up of the related technologies. In this direction the CETIC proposes services of council, of technical accompaniment and formation and of feasibility study in the fields of the Web and Grid.
Just to give some examples: about Web, the CETIC is working on technologies described as Web 2.0, it already has several industrial achievements to its credit: dedicated search engines and strong added value search engines, tools for Web retro-engineering and so on. In the Grid area, the CETIC is, for example, currently evaluating the best tools and methods to distribute a ray tracing software on every machines of a company of architects in order to strongly improve their productivity and to release more time with their creativity.
