CETIC is actively exploring the use of new ICT to better answer the need of less mobily people, temporarily or definitively disabled (wheelchair man, parent with baby carriage, people with sight or earing loss, elderly people,...). Solution also prove to enhance access for all and may be precursor of wide public products.
At the technological level, CETIC takes care that new technology does not bring new barriers to accessibility. For example an effort is made for this CMS-based web-site to be accessible in text-mode and later to respect a growing number of recommandations, like the WAI.
Some of our achievements in accessibility are:
the study of the contribution of ICT to help deaf and hard-of-hearing people to better communicate with each other, with hearing people and have access to information.
(more, in French)
the implication in the development of a videophony network and specific services for deaf and hard-of-hearing people (sign language, lips reading) (more, in French)
the structuraton and precise specifiction of a method to assess the accessibility of public places (Passe-Partout Index). (more, in French)
the implication in the development of tool support for the data collection and analysis of the Passe-Partout Index.
the design and prototyping of an auto-adaptive e-mail prototype for people suffering of traumatic bain injury.(more, in French)
participation as expert in workgroup at CRETH, RTBF and Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel
technical deployment of a video relay center in the Walloon Region at SISW (in French)
